Inspecting and maintaining a rainwater tank system isn’t overly time consuming or difficult. It is however an important part of home maintenance, especially if you rely on this system for your drinking water. By following our rainwater harvesting checklist, you not only improve the quality of your water but also prolong the life of pumps, filters, taps, cisterns and appliances.
To improve water quality before it enters the rainwater tank
Remove debris from roofs and gutters
Prune any overhanging branches
Clean and inspect gutters, pipes, insect screens
Clean and inspect rain heads and first flush devices if fitted
Empty sections of pipework that are not self-draining (wet systems)
Maintain water quality in tank
Check inlet and outlet screens for damage
Inspect tank for defects and leaks
Prevent UV light from entering the tank
Remove accumulated sludge
Improving water quality leaving the tank by:
Check and clean filters and filter housing
Check and UV filters
