TANK DESLUDGING

Over time, materials such as animal droppings from your roof, leaves, dust, debris and ash can settle on the bottom of the tank.  This becomes a breeding ground for many micro-organisms, which can cause gastrointestinal illnesses and many other serious health concerns.

Health authorities recommend desludging every 2 to 3 years.  We use a high pressured vacuum to remove the sludge and sediment off the bottom of the tank.  This method retains at least 80% of the tank's water holding capacity.

WATER TESTING

Water is tested for acceptable pH levels and total dissolved solids (TDS).  A thorough laboratory analysis can be arranged to test for bacteria, algae, metals and general chemistry.

MAINTAIN AND SERVICE FILTER SYSTEM

It's important to periodically change water filter cartridges and UV lights in your filter system to maintain good water pressure, prevent bacterial growth and bad smelling water.

Sparkling Water Tanks stock a range of filters at competitive prices.

WATER MANAGEMENT ADVICE

Quality drinking water can be achieved through good design and installation as well as ongoing, low maintenance practices.

Recommendations can be made to improve the quality of your drinking water.

DEAD ANIMAL REMOVAL

Animals sometimes find a way into rainwater tanks, contaminating the water.

The tank has to be emptied, cleaned, sanitised and refilled.

TANK AND CATCHMENT MAINTENANCE

The Australian Department of Health recommends the following:

3 months - check and clean first flush devices.

6 months - check tank, mosquito-proof screens and flap valves for rips, holes and defects.  Repair straight away.

6 months - Check roof and gutters for accumulated debris including leaf and other plant material.  Remove debris and prune overhanging tree branches and foliage.

6 months - Check for evidence of animal, bird or insect access.  If present, identify and close access points.

2-3 years - Check inside the tank for accumulated sediment.  If sludge is covering the bottom of the tank, siphon it out or completely empty the tank.  Professional tank cleaners operate in many areas.

The above regime is necessary for quality assurance
